Chadath Chay Means New Life

Production has the ability to tranform existing material. An idea becomes a script. A script becomes a performance. A performance becomes a recording. A recording becomes a finished scene.

Chadath Chay takes its name from that process. Each step adding a new piece of life to a creative work.

The Studio

Chadath Chay Studios is the Audio and Visual Production division of Tyr Productions. Started as a collaboration between Tyr Productions and Jim Bradley. Chadath Chay Studios puts philosophy first. We start from core principles and philosophy and build our processes around those. Our production philosophy is, "Great production makes creative work more effective, not louder or more complicated."

From that, we get our three production values:

Design for Effect - Every creative decision should contribute toward the intended emotional, narrative, or experiential result.
Cohesion Over Competition- Performance, sound, pacing, visuals, and other elements should work together toward a unified goal.
Economy of Design - Use the fewest elements necessary to achieve the desired outcome without sacrificing quality or impact.

OUR APPROACH

We operate from a 'story first' appraoch, and we make sure to understand what the project is trying to accomplish before making production decisions. Because we work alongside so many passionate and creative people, we strive to preserve the intent and authenticity of perfromances rather than allowing production techniques to overshadow them. We exist to highlight and enhance performance, not compete with it. While we are capable of operating independently, some of our greatest joys are found in collaborating with directors, performors, writers, and creators rather than treating production like an isolated technical process. Sometimes the real art of production is in the things that you don't see. We work tirelessly on small technical and creative details that enrich the atmosphere or provide an added layer of realism to a project. Details that, we hope, feel so natural that they go completely unnoticed by the audience.

HOW ARE WE DIFFERENT?

Chadath Chay operates as a studio under the umbrella of Tyr Productions, which acts as a production company. Chadath Chay was created to solve a problem that we noticed in production. Often individual steps in production were treated as single specialized services rather than as a part of a greater whole. We fundamentally view that system as flawed, and set out to create a structure where each step was viewed in context and informed by the downstream production needs. Scripts are adapted with performance in mind. Performance is recorded with the final edit and sound design in mind.

This structure allows us to identify problems earlier, make more purposeful decisions, and maintain greater consistency throughout the production.
